Interview With Our Head Coaches: Diego & Raul

This month, we interviewed two of our instructors so you could get to know them better. Learn about what drives them and what they love most about skateboarding!

Question 1: What motivates you as a coach?

Diego: “What motivates me as a coach is sharing information on what I’ve personally learned and being able to empower students in a way that I wish someone else would have offered me at a younger age.”

Raul: “Growing up, I didn’t have many role models to look to, but as I got older, I noticed how easily you can influence and motivate someone’s life for the better. This pushes me to go beyond the simple expectations of a coach. We’re not just skateboarding coaches. We’re also their first homies. Or their first role model— the key holders that open the door to the endless possibilities of life. Through determination and perseverance.”

Question 2: What is your favorite thing about skateboarding?

Diego: “My favorite thing about skateboarding is the emotion it evokes when I’m simply able to ride. It’s a physical and mental exercise that brings a soothing state of mind which affects me even after I step off the board. When actively learning or landing a new trick, a great sense of pride (and relief) comes from the accomplishment.”

Raul: “My favorite thing about skateboarding is the diverse communities and personalities that get highlighted through skateboarding.”

At GoGo Skateboarding, our coaches serve as inspiring role models who are passionate about spreading the joys of skateboarding through friendship and mentorship.
